What is “YearOfTheOx” on Instagram Stories?
Famous tech giant Instagram from Facebook introduced “YearOfTheOx” to celebrate the Chinese New Year.
Chinese New year is also known as Spring Festival or Lunar New Year.
Every Year Chinese New Year is celebrated between 21st January to 20th February, it is 15 days festival in China.
Chinese New Year or Lunar Year begins with the new moon and lasts until full moon day. This year New Year occurs on 12th February 2021.

According to Chinese Zodiac, 2021 is the year of the Ox and Instagram is celebrating this Chinese New year in their own way i.e by putting a story in every Instagram users account.

Here is the procedure on how to use stickers in your Instagram stories –
- Open Instagram and click on ‘your story’ in the top left-hand corner of the homepage.
- Take or upload a photo or video.
- In the top right-hand corner of the screen, you will see a series of icons. Press the third one – a smiley face inside a square.
- At the top of the screen, you will see three Chinese New Year stickers.
- Click on the sticker you want to use and post your story.
Story of Chinese New year
As you are reading this article, I thought you should know why Chinese celebrate their New Year.
As mentioned above, every Year Chinese New Year is celebrated between 21st January to 20th February, it is 15 days festival in China.

The origin of the Chinese New Year or Lunar New year stepped thousands of years ago, that time a monster named Nias (means “year”) would attract villagers at the beginning of every new year and monster afraid of only one thing and that is loud noises, bright light and red colour, so villagers use these things to chase the monster ways. This festival is celebrated to usher out the old year and bring luck and prosperity for the upcoming year.
People use firecrackers, fireworks, red clothes to celebrate their New Year.
Young people are given money in a red envelope and people get one week off from offices to celebrate the New Year and Spring Festival.
